Italian Language Courses

You can find Italian language courses at most major colleges and universities that have foreign language departments. Many also have arrangements for Italian language Study Abroad at their own center or in cooperation with an Italian school. As regular courses go, these are best for learning Italian. The incentives are strong: learn Italian or fail the class and waste your parents' money.

An Italian language course at your local college typically consists of an hour a day, Monday through Friday. Some try to fit work schedules by meeting only once or twice a week for a few hours, but unless these are accompanied by strict schedules for language reinforcement with tapes, homework, conversation groups, or online exercises, too much is lost from one class to the next. A few (very few) elementary schools in the United States have "immersion" classes in Italian. These consist of classroom instruction in Italian for all or part of the school day, with the young students learning math, science, or other topics in Italian. A few more pre-university schools offer Italian as a foreign language choice.
