Italian Language Software

As I've said on other pages at this site, language software can't replace a live instructor. When advances in artificial intelligence make it possible to replicate a human instructor, it will still miss the inventiveness and evolution of a living language. This applies to Italian and to Italian language software.

The state of technology makes it hard to distinguish between language learning software and recorded lessons like those that used to be marketed on tapes and cassettes, and now on CDs and BookChips, or available directly as downloads. The software and recordings have merged into multi-media presentations. The best Italian software courses include lots of everything: audio, video, drawings, and text references. They also include technological measures such as speech recognition and analysis. What's missing is the human input and feedback provided by a living instructor.
