Dr. Paul Pimsleur was one of the world's experts in applied linguistics. After obtaining his Ph.D. in French from Columbia University, he taught French Phonetics and Phonemics, and supervised the language laboratory at UCLA. He went on to teach at Ohio State University, the State University of New York at Albany, and the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He wrote many books and articles that revolutionized theories of language learning and teaching. Based on his years of experience and research, the Pimsleur Approach was developed to teach foreign languages to adults. The method works largely on principles observed as children learn their native language. Pimsleur Language Programs. The Pimsleur approach involves a series of half-hour lessons on tape. The student listens to one tape per day, repeating the words and phrases he/she hears. The course typically runs for 90 days. By this time, the student recognizes many words and phrases and has practice speaking them. Web Design - Small business custom website from EverestWebDesign.com.
